A man sits on a crate near a subway station jingling a McDonald’s cup of coins like a makeshift tambourine. His tone is relentlessly optimistic. The rhythm is the same every line: quarter-quarter-half / quarter-quarter-half, “Need a-little-help, Need a-little-help.” But every line is presented with an inflection different from the last, each so unique that to the casual passerby it sounds like he’s telling a story.
